展覧会に寄せて
このたび2kw galleryでは、鮫島ゆいによる個展「afterglow」を開催いたします。
鮫島は、「絵画という視覚芸術を通じて、視覚では捉えられない "見えないもの" の存在を指し示す」ことをテーマに作品制作を行なっています。
鮫島の絵画は断片を組み合わせるようにして構成されており、自ら制作する小さな立体物から得られるイメージを手掛かりに、そこから派生する多様なモチーフを断片的に描き、画面の中でそれらを組み合わせるように絵画で表現しています。不定形なキャンバスは「呼び継ぎ」と呼ばれる、欠けた陶器や漆器を金で繕う手法から着想を得ており、敢えて欠けた部分や不自然に抜き取られたような余白を作ることで想像の余地を残し、その先にある描かれていない存在を手繰り寄せようと試みています。
本展では、形がなくはっきりと認識することのできない幽霊の存在への関心を起点に、モチーフの断片の外側にある見えないものと幽霊の存在とを重ね合わせ、不可視の存在を指し示すことを試みた絵画を発表いたします。

A Message for the Exhibition
2kw gallery is pleased to present "afterglow," a solo exhibition by Yui Samejima.
Samejima's work is themed around "pointing to the existence of 'invisible things' that cannot be grasped by sight, through the visual art of painting."
Samejima's paintings are composed by combining fragments. Using images derived from small three-dimensional objects she creates herself as clues, she depicts diverse motifs that stem from these fragments, combining them within the canvas to express them in her paintings. The amorphous canvases are inspired by the "yobitsugi" technique, a method of repairing broken pottery and lacquerware with gold. By deliberately creating missing parts and unnaturally removed blank spaces, she leaves room for imagination, attempting to draw out the undepicted existence beyond.
In this exhibition, starting from her interest in the existence of ghosts—formless and indistinct entities—she presents paintings that attempt to point to invisible beings by superimposing the invisible things outside the fragments of motifs with the existence of ghosts.
