展覧会に寄せて
「アブラカダブラ」は、誰もが一度は口ずさんだことのある御呪い（おまじない）だろう。 由来としてはアラム語やヘブライ語の呪術で使用されたりと諸説あるが、依然としてこのリズミカルな言葉の語源は明確ではないらしい。されども世界一有名な呪文は、唱えることで「不思議」を説明できるお手軽な言葉で、インスタントな神秘体験を私たちにもたらしてくれるまさに魔法の言葉である。 今回の「ABRACADABRA」は鮫島ゆいと天牛美矢子による展示である。鮫島は自身で作った立体をもとに、絵を描くプロセスを経ることで無意識の領域にコンタクトしようとし、天牛は自分の理解の範疇を超えたものに対し物語を想像し、布や革を使って表現することで近付こうとする。それぞれが制作の中で、ある種の「不思議」を利用している姿勢は、神秘に触れようと呪文を唱えている様でもある。 現代では「アブラカダブラ」の魔法は白日のもとに晒され、娯楽として消費されている。しかし本来護符に書かれ、祈りや呪いを込められたこの言葉は今でも人々を惹きつけ、現実からの浮遊を誘う。彼女たちが日々制作する中で作り出されるものは、どの様な魔法を見せるのだろうか。 アブラカダブラ。
A Message for the Exhibition
"Abracadabra" is a spell that almost everyone has hummed at least once. While there are various theories about its origin, including its use in Aramaic and Hebrew magic, the etymology of this rhythmic word remains unclear. Nevertheless, this world's most famous incantation is a convenient word that can explain "mysteries" simply by chanting it, a truly magical word that brings us an instant mystical experience. This "ABRACADABRA" exhibition features works by Yui Samejima and Miyako Tengyu. Samejima attempts to contact the realm of the unconscious through the process of painting based on three-dimensional works she has created, while Tengyu tries to approach things beyond her understanding by imagining stories and expressing them using cloth and leather. Each artist's use of a certain kind of "mystery" in their work is reminiscent of chanting a spell to touch the mystical. In modern times, the magic of "Abracadabra" has been exposed to the light of day and consumed as entertainment. However, these words, originally written on amulets and imbued with prayers and curses, still fascinate people today, inviting them to float away from reality. What kind of magic will be revealed in the things they create in their daily work? Abracadabra.
