「日韓藝術通信」は、日本と韓国の相互理解、および両国の未来に対する新しい可能性の提示のため、日韓の美術家たちが集まり、互いの制作活動および作品を通して文化交流を図る試みです。2016年以降、日韓で交互に展覧会を開催しつづけてきました。
2019年は冷え込んだ日韓の状況を受けて、互いの温度を確かめ、混ざりあうような対流を作り出す意図で「温度」をテーマに開催されました。2020年度は、そのテーマを継続しつつ、「往復書簡」を副題として開催します。
コロナ禍によってデジタル化/オンライン化が急速に進むなかで、アナログな身体、リアルな物質や体験の価値が下がるかというと、必ずしもそうではありません。距離感の難しくなったこの時代に、離れながらも互いの温度を探りあうような試みとして、そしてアーティストであるからこそできるコミュニケーションとして、わたしたちは今年、日韓のアーティスト間で手紙と「風景」をモチーフとした小作品を往復書簡としてリレーさせていくプロジェクトをスタートさせました。
本展では各自の作品に加えて、日韓それぞれの手元に残る往復書簡を展示します。そこには、確かな物質に刻まれた、互いの存在と温度のやりとりがあることでしょう。いままでになかった時代に、あえてアナログな方法を採りながら、いままでとは違う交流の在り方を探ります。
"Japan-Korea Art Communication" is an initiative where Japanese and Korean artists come together to promote mutual understanding between Japan and Korea and to present new possibilities for the future of both countries, fostering cultural exchange through their respective creative activities and works. Since 2016, exhibitions have been held alternately in Japan and Korea.
In 2019, in response to the strained relationship between Japan and Korea, the exhibition was themed "Temperature," with the intention of confirming each other's feelings and creating a kind of convection that blends them together. For 2020, while continuing that theme, the exhibition will be held with the subtitle "Correspondence."
Amidst the rapid advancement of digitalization and online services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the value of analog physical presence, real materials, and experiences does not necessarily diminish. In this era where distance has become difficult to define, as an attempt to explore each other's feelings while still being apart, and as a form of communication only possible through artists, we have launched a project this year in which Japanese and Korean artists will exchange letters and small works based on the motif of "landscape" as a relay of correspondence.
In addition to each artist's work, this exhibition will display correspondence between the two countries that remains in their possession. These letters, tangible inscriptions, capture the exchange of their presence and feelings. In this unprecedented era, we deliberately employ analog methods to explore new forms of communication.
